Tafseer (Explanation) of Dua When Going Downstairs
When a person goes downstairs, he is moving from a higher level to a lower one. Saying Subḥānallāh reminds us that true greatness and perfection belong only to Allah. It creates humility in the heart and keeps a believer mindful of Allah even in daily movements.
Incident from Sunnah
The companions observed that during journeys and daily routines, whenever the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ came down from a higher place, he would say Subḥānallāh. They followed this practice and made it a habit, understanding that remembering Allah should continue at all times.
It is a Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ that:
- When ascending, he would say Allāhu Akbar
- When descending, he would say Subḥānallāh
This shows that Islam teaches remembrance of Allah in every action, even simple movements like going downstairs.
