Allahumma iftah li abwāba raḥmatik
Translation:
O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.
Incident from the Life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ:
The life of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ teaches us that every action, no matter how small, can bring us closer to Allah when it is done with intention and remembrance. One beautiful example of this is the Dua when entering the masjid, which the Prophet ﷺ taught his companions.
It is narrated that whenever the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ entered the masjid, he did so with humility and remembrance of Allah. He emphasized specific duas for entering and leaving the masjid, showing that even walking through its doors is an act of worship.
The Prophet ﷺ spent long hours in the masjid praying, teaching, making dua, and guiding people. Tafseer (Explanation):
Let’s reflect on the words of this dua:
Allahumma
This word itself is a call filled with humility. It means “O Allah”—a direct conversation with our Creator.
Iftah li
“Open for me”—this shows that mercy is not something we can force or earn on our own. We ask Allah to open it for us.
Abwāba raḥmatik
“The doors of Your mercy”—not one door, but many doors. Mercy in prayer, mercy in forgiveness, mercy in guidance, mercy in peace of heart.
This dua reminds us that when we enter the masjid, we are stepping into a place where Allah’s mercy is already present—we are just asking Allah to let us benefit from it.
