The Best Days of the Year:
Maximising the 10 Days of
Dhul Hijjah in Islam
Discover why scholars declare these ten days spiritually superior even to the nights of Ramadan — and how to make every single moment count.
Until 1st Dhul Hijjah 1447 AH (approx. 18th May 2026)
Even greater in reward than the last ten nights of Ramadan, according to Ibn Abbas (R.A).
17th May is the last date to trim nails and cut hair before Dhul Hijjah begins at Maghrib.
Fasting on the Day of Arafah erases two full years of sins — the single greatest fast of the year.
An 8-step daily spiritual routine to transform every hour of these 10 blessed days.
Why the 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah in Islam Are Spiritually Unmatched
Ibn Abbas (R.A) narrated that the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: "There are no days during which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days." The companions asked: "Not even Jihad in the path of Allah?" He replied: "Not even Jihad — except for the one who goes out with his life and wealth and returns with neither." (Bukhari: 969)
That is the weight of the 10 days of Dhul Hijjah in Islam. Not ten ordinary days — but ten days in which every breath of dhikr, every rukuh of Salah, every coin of charity, and every tear of du'a is multiplied in ways the human mind cannot fully measure.
The Days of Hajj
These are the same days in which millions of pilgrims encircle the Ka'bah. Even those not making Hajj can earn enormous reward by observing the same spirit of sacrifice and worship.
The "Appointed Days" of the Quran
Allah swears an oath by "ten nights" in Surah Al-Fajr (89:2). The scholars of tafseer unanimously agree: these are the ten nights of Dhul Hijjah — so precious that the Creator Himself takes oath by them.
Deeds Multiplied Beyond Measure
The 10 days of Dhul Hijjah in Islam represent perhaps the single greatest opportunity of the Islamic year. The scale of deeds — the Meezan — is weighted in your favour during these days like no other time.

Act Before Maghrib: The Sunnah of Trimming Nails and Hair
Before we discuss worship, there is an immediate, time-sensitive Sunnah action that every Muslim intending Qurbani must be aware of — and today, the 17th of May 2026, is the last opportunity to act.
Today (17th May) is the
Last Date to Trim Nails
& Cut Hair
Dhul Hijjah begins after Maghrib tonight.
Once the crescent is sighted, it is Sunnah to
avoid all cutting until after your Qurbani.
- ✂️It is Sunnah to avoid cutting hair and nails throughout the first 10 days of Dhul Hijjah — from the sighting of the crescent until after Eid sacrifice.
- 👥This Sunnah applies to both men and women who intend to offer or share in a Qurbani sacrifice.
- ✅Follow this Sunnah today — trim before Maghrib — and then preserve your hair and nails as an act of worship for ten days.
This is not merely a cultural tradition. It is a direct instruction from the Prophet ﷺ — preserved in Sahih Muslim — that connects every Muslim across the globe in a shared physical act of devotion, mirroring in a small way the state of the Hajj pilgrims in ihram. It is a beautiful, tangible way to begin living the 10 days of Dhul Hijjah in Islam with full intention and embodied practice.
In the 10 days of Dhul Hijjah in Islam, the Meezan leans toward mercy. Every consistent small deed — a SubhanAllah, one page of Quran, a quiet prayer — adds weight to the right side of your scale.
Your Step-by-Step Spiritual Routine for the 10 Days of Dhul Hijjah in Islam
These are not ambitious resolutions — they are small, consistent habits that collectively tip the Meezan of deeds in your favour. Begin with one. Build toward all eight.
Before sunrise on the 1st of Dhul Hijjah, sit quietly and dedicate these days entirely to Allah's pleasure. Say it aloud. Write it down. Pin it where you will see it. The Prophet ﷺ taught us that deeds are judged by intentions — so a sincere niyyah transforms your entire day into worship.
The Prophet ﷺ instructed us to increase the Takbeeraat throughout these days. Make it your background soundtrack:
"Allahu Akbar" — Allah is the Greatest
"Alhamdulillah" — All praise is due to Allah
"La ilaha illAllah" — There is no god but Allah
"SubhanAllah" — Glory be to Allah
Recite these walking, driving, cooking, and working. The scale tips with every syllable.
Guard every Fard (obligatory) prayer as if your Meezan depends on it — because it does. Then add the Sunnah prayers around each Fard, and if possible, set an alarm for Tahajjud in the last third of the night.
These are the ten nights in which Allah ﷻ descends to the lowest heaven asking: "Is there anyone seeking forgiveness that I may forgive them?" Do not let that window close while you sleep.
It is recommended to fast throughout the first nine days of Dhul Hijjah. But the 9th — Yawm al-Arafah — is the crown jewel:
The Prophet ﷺ said fasting on this day erases the sins of the past year and the coming year. (Sahih Muslim: 1162)
One fast. Two years of sins lifted. This is the mercy of the 10 days of Dhul Hijjah in Islam.
You do not need to complete a full Juz every day. Even one page, recited slowly with presence and reflection, is beloved to Allah during these days. If your recitation needs strengthening, our Noorani Qaida programme builds the foundation — letter by letter, rule by rule — so that your Quran recitation is both correct and confident.
Listen, recite, and reflect. Let the Quran speak to you these ten days.
Set aside a small amount each day — even £1 or £2. Consistency is more beloved to Allah than volume. If you can, give secretly — anonymously, without announcement — as secret charity extinguishes the wrath of Allah and adds immeasurable weight to your scale.
Sponsor an iftar. Support an orphan. Give food to a neighbour. These ten days of Dhul Hijjah in Islam are the time to let your wealth work for your Akhirah.
These ten days are a season of answered supplications. Do not hold back. Ask for:
Forgiveness for every sin, known and unknown
Healing for the ill in your family
Guidance for those you love who have strayed
Jannah without reckoning
Relief for the suffering Ummah worldwide
Cry if you can. The du'a of a believer in these days carries extraordinary weight before the throne of Allah.
Worship without guarding your character is like a vessel that fills from the top and leaks from the bottom. During the 10 days of Dhul Hijjah in Islam, be especially conscious of:
✦ Your tongue — no backbiting, no lying, no harsh words
✦ Your eyes — guard what you watch and consume online
✦ Your time — avoid mindless scrolling; every minute is a seed
A good deed multiplied by these days can be cancelled by a single major sin. Protect what you earn.
